My child can’t read – how will they understand the messages?
All the text has voice-over in clear, well-articulated speech. If your child can read,
it’s easy to switch off the speakersWhat age group is this designed for?
Me has been designed for adolescence and above. One of the good things about Me is that you can pick and choose the appropriate items. Many adults with intellectual and learning disabilities still need information on relationships – this resource is great for 13 – 70 year olds!Is this resource suitable for people with Autism?
Yes. Many professionals who work with people who have Autism have critiqued Me to ensure that it is an appropriate learning tool. Issues which have been considered are the need to have a very simple, uncluttered screen, the drawings of the characters have only one action at a time so there is no confusion about what exactly is meant, the drawings are very clear with a black outline. The drawings are very specific so that nothing is left to mis-interpretation. Feedback we have received has specifically praised this resource for it’s effectiveness for people with Autism. Can a person with a learning difficulty use the Me CD Rom by themselves?
Most people would need some guidance the first few times they use it, but Me has been specifically designed so that people with mild to moderate learning difficulties can use it by themselves. This is a resource which holds attention and encourages the person to keep using it. While going through the Me, people are also building their computer skills at the same time.
